Volleyball Sweeps Post, 3-0, on Senior Day

NEWARK, Del. - - Quickly approaching the end of the regular season, the Wilmington University volleyball team remains in second place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division with a 3-0 win over Post on Saturday on Senior Day at the WU Athletics Complex.

Set scores for the match were 25-19, 25-8, and 25-22.

The Wildcats (19-11, 13-3 CACC) collected 10 more kills with seven less errors than the Eagles (8-19, 5-10 CACC), putting up six total blocks and adding nine aces in the sweep.

With the Eagles leading 13-12, the Wildcats went on a set-changing run. An 8-2 run put the Wildcats up 20-15, before three more points gave them a 23-16 lead following a Genevieve Hughes ace. The Eagles saved a pair of set points, but than a service error gave the game to the Wildcats, 25-19.

The second set was all Wilmington, as they rattled off nine straight points on the service of Heather Pedrick to take a 9-1 lead. Angel Oliver then served for a while, giving the Wildcats a 17-3 lead following a block from Dorie Moore and Katie Bushong, and a kill from Mandy Behiels. Another ace from Genevieve Hughes and a kill from Heather Pedrick gave the Wildcats a 23-7 lead. A pair of Post errors gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead with a 25-8 win in set two.

Post led 7-6 in the third set but then the Wildcats turned it on to score six straight points to take a 12-7 lead. Dorie Moore and Heather Pedrick had a pair of blocks in the run while a Katie Bushong ace gave the Wildcats the 12-7 lead. But the Eagles battled back, using an 8-3 run to take a 21-19 lead and force the Wildcats into a timeout. Out of the break, the Wildcats sealed the match, getting a kill from Mandy Behiels and back-to-back errors to regain a 22-21 lead. The Eagles tied the game, 22-22. Then it was senior Mandy Behiels who closed out the match, putting down three straight kills to give the Wildcats the sweep, 25-22.

With the final three kills, Mandy Behiels was the only Wildcat with double digit kills, putting down 11 total while hitting .258 for the match. She had a double-double with 12 digs as well. Heather Pedrick put down nine kills while dishing out 12 assists and 8 digs. Pedrick and Dorie Moore led the Wildcats at the week with four block assists. Grace Morton had 12 digs while Elly Collins came up with 10 digs.

Prior to the game, the Wildcats honor its four seniors with a Senior Day ceremony. The Wildcats honored Mandy Behiels, Genevieve Hughes, Grace Morton, and Angel Oliver.

The Wildcats close out their three-game home stand with a pivotal CACC South Division contest against Georgian Court on Wednesday night. The first serve is set for 7:00 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.
