Chavez Brooks, Brice Hansen, and Elly Collins Named CACC Players of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - A big Homecoming Saturday for the Wilmington University volleyball and men's soccer teams aided in three student-athletes earning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Men's soccer's center back Chavez Brooks and volleyball's libero Elly Collins were named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week in their respective sports while Brice Hansen was named volleyball's CACC Rookie of the Week as well.

Chavez Brooks (Kingston, Jamaica) anchored down the defense in the team's 2-0 shutout victory over CACC rival Post. The Eagles, who were receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II National Poll, only registered six shots, with only one of them getting on frame. Marcus Hedemann scored both goals for the Wildcats in the second half, earning a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll.

Brice Hansen (Lyman, Wyoming) led the team in a 2-0 week, defeating Chestnut Hill and Dominican in CACC play. The freshman led the team in putting down 24 kills, averaging 3.43 terminations per set. She hit .260 for the week with only four errors on 77 swings from the outside. She also averaged 3.14 digs per set while playing all the way around. She collected 13 kills and seven digs in a 3-1 win against Chestnut Hill and finished her week with 11 kills and only one error and 15 digs in a sweep of Dominican on Homecoming.

Elly Collins (Tarpon Springs, Florida) led the back row for the Wildcats in their 2-0 week, getting her hands on 37 digs in the two matches. She averaged 5.29 digs per set, collecting 12 digs and three aces against Chestnut Hill and then coming back with 25 digs in just three sets against Dominican. Collins currently leads the CACC with 273 digs on the year and 4.79 digs per set average.

Volleyball's Heather Pedrick was named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll as well, collecting 13 kills and a career best 29 digs against Chestnut Hill. Women's soccer's Emilie Larsen was also named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll after scoring two goals against Post on Saturday.
