Volleyball Wins Third Straight With Sweep at Goldey-Beacom

WILMINGTON, Del. - - The Wilmington University volleyball team won its third straight and fifth out of its last six matches overall with a 3-0 sweep at Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division foe Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday night inside the Joseph West Jones Center.

Set scores for the match were 25-15, 25-17, and 25-15.

The Wildcats (6-11, 4-2 CACC) finished with their best attack percentage of the season, putting down 42 kills with only 13 errors on 91 swings, finishing with a .319 attack percentage. That bested the .310 attack percentage against Georgian Court on September 15.

An 11-3 run in the middle of the first set was the difference for the Wildcats, turning an 8-7 game into a 19-10 lead. The Wildcats ended the set with a Goldey-Beacom service error, 25-15.

Goldey-Beacom led the second set, 10-9, but then the Wildcats rattled off five straight in route to an 8-1 run to take a 17-11 lead. The Lightning battled back to within 19-16, but then Sydney Barrett put down a kill to start a 5-0 run to get to set point, 24-16. Brice Hansen finished off the second set with a kill, 25-17.

Leading 9-6 in the third, Dorie Moore kickstarted a 7-2 run to allow the Wildcats to put away. A Shannen Litten kill put the Wildcats ahead, 14-8, and then a Heather Pedrick jump service ace gave the Wildcats a 16-8 lead. The teams traded points until they led 21-14. Kaiya Medina put down a kill before Shannen Litten gave the Wildcats match point with another kill, 24-14. A Lightning service error ended the match, 25-15.

Brice Hansen led the Wildcats with a match high 10 kills and a team high 11 digs. Kacey Affrunti collected eight kills while hitting .538 and Heather Pedrick finished with seven kills and six digs. Katie Bushong dished out 35 assists in the win, adding two aces and four kills as well.

The Wildcats will look to continue their strong play on Saturday, as they head to Alliance University, formerly known as Nyack College. The opening serve of the match is set for 1:00 p.m. at New Jersey City University.
