Tyler Muse Leads All Division II Runners While Wilmington Cross Country Runs at the UD Invite

NEWARK, Del. - - Tyler Muse was the top Division II runner at the Delaware Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, leading the Wilmington men to a third place finish while the women placed fifth overall among Division II and III schools at White Clay Creek State Park.

Muse finished fourth overall among NCAA Division II and III student-athletes, finishing the 8K course in 27:20.93. Megan Ferrick paced the women's team by placing second overall, and second among NCAA Division II runners.

Senior SaraBeth Oppermann was 13 seconds behind Megan Ferrick, finishing in fourth in 25:17.35 while classmate Jeanette Halliburto finished 15th overall with a time of 26:11.33.

Morgan Ferrick earned 42 points for the Wildcats finishing in 45th overall with a time of 27:57.89. Senior Tijen Ozcan rounded out the Wildcat scoring with a 47th place finish (44 points), crossing the line in 28:07.13.

On the men's side, Mark Hannigan joined Muse in the top-10 among Division 2 & 3 runners, finishing ninth overall with a time of 27:34.86. Senior Matt Mossman gave the Wildcats 19 points with a time of 28:19.08 before freshman Andrew Milham finished 21st overall (20 points) with a time of 28:24.46.

Junior Quinn Marvel rounded out the Wildcats scoring with a time of 28:55.65, giving the team 23 points for a total of 75 points on the afternoon. The Wildcats placed third overall behind Rowan and Salisbury.

The Wildcats return to action in two weeks when they head to Franklin Park in Boston, Mass., on September 27. The women will start things off with an 11:00 a.m. gun, followed by the men.
