Cross Country’s Isaac Ndirangu Named CACC Men’s Runner of the Week After First Place Finish

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - After winning his first cross country meet as a member of the Wildcats, sophomore Isaac Ndirangu was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Runner of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

The first installment of the CACC Weekly Awards resulted in Ndirangu (Nakura, Kenya) as the CACC Men's Runner of the Week while men's soccer Jamie Burridge (Hertfordshire, England) was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.

Ndirangu helped lead the Wildcats to a first place finish at the 16th Annual WUXC Invite on Saturday, out-kicking teammate Ken Fontal to the finish line. He finished his first event with the Wildcats in an 8K time of 28:03.97. Ndirangu ran his freshman season at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

The Wildcats earned 33 points to claim the Invitational, defeating CACC foe Nyack by four points. Ndirangu and Fontal went 1-2 at the finish line to help carry the Wildcats.

Holy Family's Tarin Nelson earned the CACC Men's Rookie of the Week after finishing 10th at the 16th Annual WUXC Invite in a time of 30:37.36. The Tiger's Katerina Zachmann took home the women's Rookie of the Week by also running at the WUXC Invite, finishing second overall in 20:14.10. The CACC Women's Runner of the Week was Georgian Courts' Jessica Handsaker.

Burridge helped the men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory against NYIT in the team's season and home opener on Saturday. He assisted on the team's second goal before scoring the third goal, which turned into the game-winner for the Wildcats.

Holy Family's Christopher Tracey was named the CACC Player of the Week while Caldwell's Darren Appanah earned the CACC Rookie of the Week award. Nyack's Wiktor Lasota was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week.
