Cross Country Runs at Rowan’s Inter-Regional Border Battle; Mark Corrigan Impressive Again

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. - - Mark Corrigan continued his midseason surge on Saturday, leading the Wilmington University men's cross country team to a third place finish both Wildcat teams competed at the Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle at DREAM Park.

Corrigan's third place finish helped the men to a 3rd place finish as a team, running against 19 teams. Gabby Brown finished 23rd overall for 16 points to lead the women to a 10th place finish out of 15 teams in the open division.

Brown set a new 6K personal record on Saturday, running the event in 24:38.4 to finish 23rd overall. She gave the Wildcats 16 points on the day. She broke her 6K PR from 2017, set at the NCAA Regional event in 25:00.2.

Alexa Crowell gave the Wildcats 21 points with a 29th place finish, running in 24:54.0. Freshman Allyson Kelly finished 76th overall to give the Wildcats 53 points, finishing in 26:39.8. Classmate Hannah Fitzpatrick was the fourth scorer for the Wildcats with a 116th place finish, earning 77 points with a time of 28:11.1. Junior Emily Kockott rounded out the Wildcats scoring with 80 points, crossing the line in 119th overall with a time of 28:26.4.

Tara Langan raced to a 136th place finish with a time of 29:38.1 while Tori Crawford rounded out the Wildcats on the course with a time of 38:27.1 on Saturday.

Johns Hopkins won the open race with a perfect 15 points, followed by Rochester with 62 points. The Wildcats earned 247 points, just behind Elizabethtown's 246. The unattached Maura Linde won the open event with a time of 21:28.5.

Three Wildcats set new season lows on the men's side, following Corrigan's third place finish. Corrigan was only eight seconds off the leader, finishing the 8K event in 26:27.1.

Garrett Checchi was one of the Wildcats to set a new season low on Saturday, finishing 10th overall for nine points with a time of 26:54.7. Sophomore Johnelle Joe also set a new season low, crossing the line in 19th overall for 17 points with a time of 27:16.3. Senior Miguel Suero also set a new season's best with a time of 27:21.2. He finished 22nd overall for 20 points for the fourth Wildcat scorer. Rounding out the team score for the Wildcats was freshman Brandon Cruz, as he finished 23rd overall for 21 points with a time of 27:21.7.

Senior Johnathan Avila finished 50th overall with a time of 27:54.9 while junior James Kennedy finished 61st with a time of 28:13.9. Sean Scandle ran to a 79th place finish with a time of 28:35.8 and Andrew Milham followed with a 110th place finish with a time of 29:09.5. Zak Bracchus placed 161st overall with a time of 30:53.3, Dan Leek placed 171st overall with a time of 31:34.9, and Jayven Davis rounded out the Wildcats on the course with a time of 40:31.0.

The Wildcats finished with 70 points on the afternoon, trailing only Johns Hopkins' 28 points and RPI's 41 points. Johns Hopkins' Aditya Joshi wont he meet with a time of 26:19.8.

The Wildcats will take next weekend off in order to prepare for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship on Sunday, October 28. The event is back on Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park with the women running at 9:00 a.m. and the men running at 10:00 a.m.
