Men’s Cross Country Ranked Seventh in Latest USTFCCCA East Region Poll

NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University men's cross country team remains in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Regional Rankings this week, dropping a spot to No. 7 after their opening weekend.

The Wildcats had their first meet of the 2019 season last weekend, competing at Kutztown's Division II/III Challenge on Saturday morning. The Wildcats finished eighth out of 13 teams with 208 points.

The Wildcats were led by sophomore Brandon Cruz who ran the 8K in 27:12.2, finishing 30th overall. Newcomer Logan Strouse was the second Wildcat finished, placing 36th in a time of 27:21.9.

Southern Connecticut State jumped Stonehill to take over the top spot in this week's poll. American International remains at No. 3, while Roberts Wesleyan jumped Southern New Hampshire to take over the fourth spot. Franklin Pierce moved up two spots to No. 6 while Wilmington and Assumption each dropped a spot. St. Thomas Aquinas and Jefferson join the poll for the first time after not being ranked in the preseason poll.

The Wildcats are off this coming weekend, but then travel to Sacramento, California to take part in the Capital Cross Challenge on Saturday, September 28. The event is being run at the site of the 2019 NCAA DII National Championship at Arcade Creek Golf Course.
