Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Earn Six Student-Athletes to 2019 CACC Fall All-Academic Teams

NEWARK, Del. – Concluding their back-to-back Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championship, the men's cross country team earned two members on the 2019 CACC Fall All-Academic Team, as the women recorded four individuals on the list.

From the men's side, sophomore Garrett Checchi and senior James Kennedy earned the All-Academic award out of 23 honorees, as the women were comprised of Alexa Crowell, Rosemary Gillam, Allyson Kelly, and Grace Slate, who represented WilmU out of 29 student-athletes.

Garrett Checchi earned it for the first time in his career after posting a 3.58 cumulative grade point average, while majoring in criminal justice. James Kennedy also earned the award for the first time throughout his career, as he finished with a 3.96 GPA studying environmental science & policy.

Junior Alexa Crowell earned the All-Academic award for the second time throughout her career after posting a 3.82 cumulative GPA, while majoring in business at Wilmington. Teammate Rosemary Gilliam earned it for the first time as a sophomore with a mark of 3.94, while majoring in biology. Allyson Kelly and Grace Slate rounded out the sophomore class, both earning the award for the first time in their careers. Kelly, who is majoring in elementary education posted a 3.84 GPA, as Slate had a 3.62 cumulative GPA, majoring in marketing.

The Wildcat men captured their second consecutive CACC title to finish out the fall season, as the women finished fifth in the CACC Championship.

To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, a student-athletes must meet the following criteria: a) minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 at the end of the immediate preceding term; b) minimum of two semesters enrolled as full-time student at member institution; c) student-athlete must be second year student-athlete at member institution; and d) student-athlete must have been athletically eligible the season preceding the award and used a season of eligibility.
