Logan Strouse and Yailynn Ramirez Lead Cross Country Teams in 2021 Season Opening WUXC Invite

WILMINGTON, Del. - - An unusually cool September Saturday morning played host to the 2021 Wilmington University cross country season opening meet, as the Wildcats hosted the 20thing Annual WUXC Invite at Carousel Park.

The men's team finished second overall with 49 points while Yailynn Ramirez finished eighth other to pace the women.

Logan Strouse led the men's team with a second place finish in the newly designed five mile course at Carousel Park, finishing in 28:01.2. Freshmen Matt Gonzalez and Dan Wyshinski finished 6th and 7th, respectively, as the next Wildcat to finish the line. Gonzalez narrowly beat our Wyshinski with a time of 28:42.6 while Wyshinski finished in 28:47.4.

Michael Dowd was the fourth finisher for the Wildcats with a 16th place finish and a time of 30:45.8 before Jared Cushlanis rounded out the Wildcats scoring with an 18th place finish in a time of 31:18.8.

West Chester won the Invite with 27 points, getting the individual winner in Philip Smith with a time of 27:44.1. The Golden Rams also had the third and fourth place finishers, as well as No. 9, 10, and 11.

Hayward Boutte finished 31st with a time of 35:04.4 while Darnell McLean placed 32nd with a time of 25:28.7 to round out the Wildcats on the course.

Yailynn Ramirez finished eighth overall in the women's 5K event, running to a season opening time of 21:45.2.

West Chester also too the women's team title on Saturday, earning 23 points to take the crown. The Golden Ram's Sarah Supplee set a new course record in the process, crossing the line in 19:19.7. Felician took second as a team with 39 points.

The Wildcats are back in action next Saturday when they head to the LVC Dutchmen Invite at Union Canal Tunnel Park in Lebanon, Pa. The women are up first with a 10:15 a.m. gun.
