Four Wildcats Set Personal Marks as Wilmington Cross Country Competes at Harry Anderson Invite

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - - Four Wildcats set new personal records today as the Wilmington University cross country teams competed at the Harry Anderson Invite on Saturday at the Matt St. James Trails hosted by Roberts Wesleyan.

Getting a preview of the 2021 NCAA DII East Regional Championship course, the men's team placed 10th out of 18 team, with four Wildcats setting new personal records.

Matt Gonzalez led the men's team with a 21st place finish, setting a new personal time of 26:31.1 in the 8K. Dan Wyshinski also set a new personal mark, finishing 51st (49 points) with a time of 27:14.5.  Logan Strouse gave the Wildcats 58 points with a 67th place finish, crossing the line in 27:51.2. Michael Dowd collected 63 points for the Wildcats with an 85th place finish, finishing with a time of 28:27.3.

Darnell McLean capped the Wildcats' scoring while setting a new personal record, giving the team 89 points with a 150th overall finish. He crossed the line with a new best time of 31:45.2. Rounding out the Wildcats on the course and finishing just behind McLean was Hayward Boutte who also set a new personal record with his time of 31:47.2.

In the Regional Preview, perennial power Stonehill took the Invite with 55 points, having all five runners finishing in the Top 14. Roberts Wesleyan finished second with the top two individual finishers, as Shane Pease won the race with a time of 25:39.0.

In the women's 5K race, Yailynn Ramirez finished 57th overall with a time of 20:27.5. NCAA DIII SUNY Geneseo won the Invite 24 points, getting all five scorers inside the Top 8, including the first two finishers. Stonehill finished second with 58 points. Geneseo's Windsor Ardner won the Invite with a time of 18:11.1.

The Wildcats return to a familiar course next week, as they will compete in the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University. The Saturday race will begin in the afternoon, with the women going off at 2:00 p.m. and the men following at 2:45 p.m. in Winter Place Park.
