Cross Country Runs to 10th Place Finish at NCAA DII East Regional Championships

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - - The Wilmington University men's cross country team finished 10th out of 21 teams at the NCAA Division II East Regional Championship on Saturday, hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College on the Matt St. James Trails.

The Wildcats picked up 342 points to finish 10th, being the second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference team in the standings, behind only Jefferson's seventh place finish.

American International won the Regional Championship with 25 points, finishing with all five point getters in the Top 10. Southern Connecticut State finished second with 50 points while Stonehill rounded out the Top 3 with 89 points.

Dan Wyshinski led the Wildcats on Saturday, running the 10K course in 34:13.2 to finish 52nd overall and give the Wildcats 49 points. Matt Gonzalez finishing 60th overall for 57 points in a time of 34:38.8 while Logan Strouse was right behind in 63rd overall (60 points) with a time of 34:38.8.

Michael Dowd was the fourth Wildcat to finish, crossing the line in 90th overall for 86 points with a time of 35:29.6. Jared Cushlanis rounded out the Wildcats scoring with 90 points, coming in 96th overall with a time of 35:38.9. Hayward Boutte closed the Wildcats on the course with a 135th place finish, crossing the line in 38:55.8.

American International's Ezra Mutuai won the event, finishing as the only runner under 30 minutes. He crossed the line in 29:16.2 followed by teammate Callum Elson in 30:56.4.
