Wyshinski, Ramirez, and Vial Take Home CACC Player of the Week Honors

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Three more Wilmington University student-athletes earned their way to being named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the Week, this time in cross country and women's tennis, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Runners Dan Wyshinski and Yailynn Ramirez led the Wildcats on the course at the Lock Haven University Invite on Saturday while Carmelle Vial competed well at the 2022 ITA East Regional Championships this weekend to earn CACC Co-Player and Rookie of the Week honors.

Dan Wyshinski (Pennsville, New Jersey) led the men with a 51st place finish in a dense field of 290 runners at Lock Haven, earning the team 40 points with his best 8K time of the year at 25:54.50. Running in her first meet of the year, Yailynn Ramirez (North East, Maryland) paced the women in the 6K event with a time of 24:44.50, finishing in 164th overall out of 285 runners to earn 142 team points.

The women's tennis team traveled to Flushing, New York to compete in the annual ITA East Regional Championships at the site of the US Open. The individual bracket style tournament started on Thursday and Carmelle Vila (Sommelonne, France) advanced all the way to the Quarterfinals. She earned a First Round bye by being seeded eighth overall but then came out and won her first match in the Round of 64 with a decisive 6-0 and 6-1 decision over Claudia Bahamon from the District of Columbia. She continued her straight sets victory in the Round of 32 with a win over Adelphi's Katarina Liedbeck, seeded 21st, 6-2 and 7-6 (7-5), setting up a match with the top overall seed Ebba Rosberg from UDC. Vial took down the former two-time CACC Player of the Year in a third-set superset, fending off six match points to win 6-3, 2-6, 12-10 to advance to the quarterfinals. Her run ended against No. 14 seed Sanne Selmer Gilje of Adelphi in the quarterfinals.
