2021 Wildcats of the Week

Entering its sixth year, the Wildcat of the Week award focuses on individual performances on the field/court/course over the past seven days. Every Monday, two student-athletes (one male and one female) will be selected and featured on the home page as this week's Wildcat of the Week.

Monday, April 26, 2021:

Male – Noah Given – Jr. – Men's Lacrosse:
The netminder led the Wildcats to a 1-1 week, helping secure its lowest goals against in a single game, and the largest margin of victory in a 15-1 victory at Felician on Saturday. For the week, he made 27 saves while producing a .675 save percentage and a 6.50 goals against average. Against Chestnut Hill, he made 13 saves while facing 44 shots, producing a .520 save percentage, but then he came back and stopped 14 saves while facing 31 shots, totaling a .933 save percentage at Felician on Saturday. He is currently third in the CACC with a .561 save percentage and a 11.60 goals against average on the season.

Female – Brooke Siebert – Jr. – Women's Lacrosse:
The junior midfielder broke her own single game program record on Saturday, coming up with 17 draws at Caldwell. In two games last week, she scooped up 22 draw controls and she is currently atop the leaderboard in the CACC with 57 on the year. Last week, she was also second on the team with 10 points, scoring six goals while adding four assists. She tallied one goal and one assist against Georgian Court, but then came back and scored five goals and three assists at Caldwell. She is also tied for second in the CACC with 27 ground balls, as she collected five against Georgian Court and three more at Caldwell. She is also second in the CACC with 15 caused turnovers at this point in the season.

Monday, April 12, 2021:

Male – Giovanni Marino – Fr. – Men's Lacrosse:
The freshman attack led the Wildcats to their first win of the season, producing four goals while adding an assist in the 17-14 win over Post on Saturday. All four of his shots on goal found the back of the net as he also added one ground ball. He scored the game's first goal and had a hat trick by halftime. His goal in the fourth quarter gave the Wildcats a 15-13 lead as the Wildcats held tight in the final frame. HE currently leads the team with nine points (6 G, 3 A) in three games.

Female – Haley Downin – Fr. – Softball:
The freshman moved into the leadoff position for the majority of the week and batted 9-for-17 (.529) in six games. She scored six runs and went a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen bases. All nine hits came in the final four games of the week, batting 3-for-3 in game one at West Chester, 2-for-3 with an RBI in game one at Holy Family, and 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored in game two at Holy Family. She also appeared in the circle in three games last week, going 2-1 in 10.1 innings with eight strikeouts and three walks. She had a 2.71 ERA for the week.

Monday, March 29, 2021:

Male – Nic Hertzfedl – So. – Baseball:
Nic Hertzfeld hit his first two career homers, doing so in back-to-back at-bats on Saturday at USciences. He hit a three-run bomb in his second at-bat of the day, and then followed it with a two-run shot in his next at-bat. He finished 2-for-5 with five RBI in the game one win. Also batted 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the home opener against the Devils on Tuesday and ended the week by going 1-for-3 with a run and a stolen base in game two on Saturday. Batted .333 (4-for-12) while slugging .917 with a .429 on-base percentage.

Female – Lauren Lopez – Jr. – Softball:
The junior batted 8-for-14 (.571) in four games to start the 2021 season, pouring in 12 RBI as well as five runs scored. She had a hit in every game, starting the season by going 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI in a 7-0 win at USciences. Tacked on two more RBI in the nightcap at USciences, giving her six for the doubleheader. Batted 2-for-4 with two runs in a game one win at Felician on Saturday, and then finished her week by going 3-for-3 with a homer, six RBI, and two runs scored. Her two-run homer broke the all-time career RBI record of 112, set by Colby Wyatt '17. Lopez now has 116 career RBI after the weekend.

Monday, March 22, 2021:

Male – Giovanni Marino – Fr. – Men's Lacrosse:
Giovanni Marino paced the Wildcats' offense on Sunday, scoring twice while adding two assists in the season opener against Lake Erie. He scored the season's first goal, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead in the early going. He also assisted on the second goal of the quarter, giving the Wildcats the 2-1 lead after 15 minutes of play. He again scored to tie the game at 5-5 in the third frame.

Female – Tori Grubowski – So. – Women's Lacrosse:
Tori Grubowski was a wall in goal for the Wildcats in their 2021 season opener on Saturday, stopping 26 shots against Frostburg State, keeping the Wildcats in the contest. The 26 saves are the fourth most for a single game in program history. She recorded an outstanding .578 save percentage, facing 56 shots, 45 shots on goal. She also scooped up three ground balls and caused a turnover from inside the crease on Saturday.
