NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - For the 12th time in the last 13 seasons, Wilmington University is the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Alfred R. Restaino, Sr. Cup Champion for overall athletic excellence in male sports. The Wildcats claimed the 2021-22 Restaino Men's Cup, as announced on Wednesday by CACC Commissioner Dan Mara.

The Wildcats first won the Restaino Cup in the 2009-10 academic year and never relinquished it, winning it 11 straight years before turning it over to Concordia in 2020-21 only due to the athletics department not competing that season because of the pandemic.

Led by the tennis team's run to a CACC Tournament Championship and the soccer and softball teams' runner-up finishes in the championship, the women finished fourth overall with an average score of 8.21, tied for their second best finish. They finished a program best third overall four times. Jefferson won the women's Restaino Cup with an average score of 10.65.

The point system used for the award takes into account each athletic program's finish in both the 2021-22 CACC regular season contests and conference tournaments. Each institution receives a combined point total and the sum is then divided by the number of men's sports the institution competed in during this past season. The award is named after the late Bloomfield College Director of Athletics and Head Coach Alfred R. Restaino, Sr., who served a vital role in not just the school's athletic department but also in the enhancement of the CACC.

Bolstered by championships in golf and baseball, the Wildcats claimed the men's cup with an average score of 11.6071. Georgian Court University (9.8500) and Post University (9.6250) rounded out the top three in second and third place, respectively.

WilmU's golf and baseball teams were not the only Wildcats men's teams to taste CACC success during the 2021-22 campaign. Men's soccer and men's lacrosse won their respective CACC regular season championships, while men's track & field produced a runner-up finish at the conference championship, and the cross country squad turned in a solid third-place showing at the league meet. Lacrosse also reached the finals of the CACC Championship tournament, while soccer advanced to the semifinals. The men's basketball team reached the CACC Tournament as well, falling in the quarterfinal round.
