WilmU Men’s Programs Claims 13th CACC Restaino Cup; Women’s 3rd Place Ties Program’s Best Finish

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - For the 13th time in the last 14 seasons, Wilmington University is the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Alfred R. Restaino, Sr. Cup Champion for overall athletic excellence in male sports.

The Wildcats first won the Restaino Cup in the 2009-10 academic year and never relinquished it, winning it 11 straight years before turning it over to Concordia in 2020-21 only due to the WilmU athletics department not competing that season because of the pandemic.

Led by CACC Regular Season and Tournament Championships from the women's tennis and softball teams, the women tied their best overall finish in the Restaino Cup with a third-place standing, averaging 9.6944 points. Jefferson again won the women's Restaino Cup with an average score of 10.25 followed by Holy Family's 9.8438 average score. It is the fifth time in program history the women have finished in third place.

The point system used for the award considers each athletic program's finish in both the 2022-23 CACC regular season contests and conference tournaments. Each institution receives a combined point total and the sum is then divided by the number of men's sports the institution competes in during the season. The award is named after the late Bloomfield College Director of Athletics and Head Coach Alfred R. Restaino, Sr., who served a vital role in not just the school's athletic department but also in the enhancement of the CACC.

Bolstered by the Wildcats' men's track & field championship and baseball's South Division regular season title, the men collected an average of 11.0714 points per sport. Aiding in the department victory was the golf team who placed second at the CACC Championship, the men's cross country team finishing third at the CACC Championship, the men's soccer and men's lacrosse teams reaching the CACC Tournament Semifinals, and another postseason appearance by the men's basketball team.

Thomas Jefferson finished second overall as a men's program with an average score of 10.3571 while Georgian Court finished third overall with an average score of 10.100.
