MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - - Four unearned runs in the seventh inning allowed Le Moyne to overtake the Wilmington University baseball team, 5-4, on Saturday afternoon at the Ripken Experience on day two of The Northeast Challenge in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The Wildcats (1-2) were leading 3-1 with two outs in the top of the seventh, but a two-out error resulted in a four run inning, capped by a three-run Dolphin (5-1) homer to take a 5-3 lead. The Wildcats were able to score one in the bottom of the ninth, but left the game-tying run on base as the game ended.

The Dolphins scored the game's first run, as a leadoff home run broke the ice in the third inning. Nick Macey got the Wildcats on the board in the bottom of the fourth, tying the game with an RBI ground out. Kyle Fries then singled back up the middle, bringing Nick Grant for the 2-1 lead.

Max Carney added to the lead in the bottom of the fifth, hitting a two-out single to right to bring in Kendall Small from second base for the 3-1 lead.

Reliever Justin Mears picked up the first two outs of the seventh inning, but back-to-back walks brought Zach Frederick to the mound. With runners on second and third and two outs, Frederick induced a swinging strikeout, but the throw down to first was off the mark, bringing in one run and keeping the inning alive. The Dolphins' next hitter made it hurt, hitting a three-run blast to left field for the 5-3 lead.

Brett Nowell started the bottom of the ninth off with his second hit of the game, and two batters later the Wildcats had the tying run on second as Christian Adorno doubled to right with one out. Small hit a sacrifice fly to right to cut the deficit to 5-4, but the Dolphins picked up the final out of the game on a fly ball to left before any more damage was done.

Adorno went 2-for-4 with a double while Max Carney went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Nowell was the final Wildcat with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. He collected his first collegiate base hit with a single in the seventh inning.

Starter Chuck Delagol struck out eight batters in five innings, allowing one run on three hits with only two walks. Frederick fell to 0-1 with the unfortunate loss in his 0.1 inning of work. Matt Danz made his collegiate debut with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

The Wildcats wrap up their opening weekend with their final game in Myrtle Beach on Sunday. They will face Southern Connecticut State at the Ripken Experience starting at 12:00 p.m.
