Baseball Still in Line for CACC Three-Peat; Scheduled 30 Games for 2021 Season

NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University baseball team has won each of the past two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournaments, and will be looking for their second ever three-peat when the 2021 season gets underway on March 23.

The Wildcats are still the two-time defending CACC Tournament Champions, despite the 2020 season getting cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Wildcats defeated Felician in the 2018 CACC Tournament and Dominican in then 2019 CACC Tournament. They also won three straight CACC Tournaments Championships from 2011-13.

Full of mostly CACC contests, the 2021 schedule features 30 games with nine dates set aside to be played at Wilson Field. The CACC schedule will feature a three-game series against similar South Division opponents and a 7-inning doubleheader against the North Division foes. South Division opponents will play a single 9-inning game during the week and a 9/7-inning doubleheader on the weekend.

Things will look different in 2021, as CACC policy states no fans, parents, students, or spectators of any kind are allowed at any contest in 2021. The Wilmington University athletics department has a plan in place to live stream and live stat every home contest to ensure spectators can follow online, weather and rescheduling permitting.

Following Felician's three-year rotation in the South Division to balance the teams, Nyack has rotated in and will be considered a South Division member. The Wildcats will also play three games against USciences, Jefferson, Chestnut Hill, and Goldey-Beacom.

The Wildcats will also play a few nonconference opponents in 2021, heading to Mercy, Millersville and Molloy, while hosting single games against Molloy and St. Thomas Aquinas.

The 2021 CACC Tournament will also look different, as three teams from each division will head to a single elimination tournament. Each game will be played at the higher seed, instead of a predetermined site. The number one seed in each division will earn a first-round bye.

The 2021 CACC Tournament Champion will be crowned on Saturday, May 15.
