TOURNAMENT PREVIEW: Wildcats Vying for Ninth CACC Baseball Tournament Championship Starting Thursday

NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University baseball team is making its 13th straight appearance in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament in 2022, this year as the No. 1 overall seed after winning the South Division Regular Season Championship. The 2022 tournament will be hosted by Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut.

The Wildcats won the 2022 CACC South Division with a 19-5 CACC record, earning a bye into the double-elimination portion of the CACC Tournament. They will square off against the North Division's No. 2 seed Felician in the first round on Thursday after the Golden Falcons swept Dominican in the best-of-three play-in series.

The Wildcats are looking for their ninth CACC Tournament Championship in 2022, having won the postseason championship in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2018, and 2019.

Scouting the No. 2 Wilmington University Wildcats:

The Wildcats begin postseason play with a 28-10 overall record. They are 7-3 in their last 10 games overall. The team was honored with five All-CACC selections, four being on the First Team, including the CACC Pitcher of the Year in Ryan Sandberg and the CACC Coach of the Year.

Ryan Sandberg becomes the sixth Wildcat to win the CACC Pitcher of the Year award in the program's NCAA era, but the first since David Hatt won in 2013. It is Brian August's third CACC Coach of the Year distinction in his 18-year career at the helm of the Wildcats.

Inside the CACC the Wildcats rank third overall with a .300 batting average, and that goes up to .306 against CACC foes only. They are also third with an overall mark of .400 in on-base percentage and second overall with a .469 slugging percentage. They are also second overall with 113 stolen bases on the year, only being caught 20 times.

Where the Wildcats separate themselves from the pack in on the mound, as they lead the CACC with a 4.46 team ERA, with the next two best teams tied for second with a 6.01 team ERA. The staff is fourth overall in striking out 9.39 batters per nine innings as well.

The team also does well behind their pitchers, ranking third overall with a .951 fielding percentage, with a league low 63 errors in 1,285 total chances. They had allowed a league low 40 stolen bases this season.
