Matt Warrington Leads Five Wildcats Named to Baseball’s All-Region Teams

NEWARK, Del. - - Matt Warrington leads a cast of five Wilmington University baseball student-athletes that earned All-Region honors, as the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA), and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced their All-Region selections.

Matt Warrington (Millsboro, Del.), the Wildcat's ace who became the seventh Wildcat named the CACC Pitcher of the Year, was a unanimous First Team All-Region selection among the three organizations. He joins Pete Henyan (2005), Ken McGrady (2006), Joe Harris (2010 & 2011), David Hatt (2013), and Ryan Sandberg (2022) as CACC Pitchers of the Year. The junior led the CACC and finished 26th in all of NCAA Division II with a 2.44 earned run average. On the year, Warrington is 7-1 with 88 strikeouts, ranking 22nd in NCAA DII with an 11.84 K/9 rate and 42nd overall in the country with a WHIP of 1.13. Warrington struck out a career-best 13 batters in a complete game shutout against Alliance, being named the NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week. In 66.1 innings pitched, he's only allowed 23 walks, while batters only hit .217 against him on the year.

Dom Grady (Bensalem, Pa.) anchored the bullpen for the Wildcats, turning into a First Team All-Region reliever by the D2CCA and NCBWA and a Second Team closer for the ABCA. Grady led the Wildcats with a 2.32 ERA in 21 appearances, going 3-3 with two saves on the mound. In his 31 innings, he only allowed 26 hits while picking up 42 strikeouts, amassing a 12.19 strikeout per 9.0 inning ratio. Hitters only batted .228 against the righty while he also only allowed six walks, carrying a 1.03 WHIP. Grady's two saves came against Shippensburg and Caldwell.

Jack McDonald (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) has been one of Coach August's most dangerous bats of the year. He was named a Second Team All-Region designated hitter by D2CCA and NCBWA. McDonald is in the Top 5 of the CACC in the three percentage categories, ranking third overall with a .497 on-base percentage and fourth with a .653 slugging percentage. He is ninth in the CACC by batting .364, going 43-for-118 on the year with eight doubles, a triple, and eight homers which ranks fifth in the league. McDonald ranks third on the team with 34 RBI while scoring a team-best 36 runs. McDonald totaled ten games with two or more hits. McDonald earned NCBWA East Region Hitter of the Week for games ending on April 2.

Erik Grady (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned a long-term stay in the lineup as the 2023 season progressed, leading to a unanimous Second Team All-Region player. Grady finished 84th in NCAA DII with a .389 batting average, going 37-for-95 this season. He finished fifth in the CACC with a .470 on-base percentage and 19th overall with a .516 slugging percentage. He has seven doubles, a triple, and a homer while knocking in 29 runs and scoring 28 more. Grady hit a four-hit day in a doubleheader sweep against Bridgeport on March 30, which included five RBIs (three in game one and two in game two).

Nick Nocella (Mantua, N.J.) paced the outfielders for the Wildcats, earning a Second Team All-Region nod by the NCBWA. Nocella was third in the CACC with a .379 batting average throughout the year, bumping up his game in CACC games with a .441 batting average. He was also third in the league with a .661 slugging percentage, finishing second on the team with 38 RBI. He batted 47-for-124 for the year with nine doubles, a triple, and eight homers, ranking fifth in the CACC.

Southern New Hampshire's Nick Schwartz was named the unanimous East Region Player of the Year while Pace's Patrick Gleason was named the East Region Pitcher of the Year by the ABCA and NCBWA. Southern New Hampshire's Jeffrey Praml was voted the East Region Pitcher of the Year in the D2CCA while his coach Scott Loiseau earned the NCBWA Coach of the Year to wrap up the major awards.
