Wilmington Golf Closes Regular Season with Second Place Finish at Mike Bellow Spring Invite

BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. - - The Wilmington University golf team finished second at the Mike Bello Invitational on Friday, wrapping up the 2017 regular season with a 307-303 in the two-round tournament on Friday afternoon at Timber Banks Golf Club hosted by Le Moyne College.

The host Dolphins led the tournament with a 298-304 for a 602 while the Wildcats shot a 307-303 for a 610 and a second place finish. Franklin Pierce finished in third place with a combined score of 621to round out the top three.

The Wildcats' Sam Clark led the Wildcats with a 73 in the first round before falling to a tie for ninth overall with a 79 in the second round. He finished in a tie for ninth overall with a 152 (+8) for the two-round, one-day tournament.

Zac Moore made a big comeback to comeback and lead the Wildcats, posting a team best 71 in the second round. He shot an 80 in the opening round before coming back and finishing with a team best 71 in the second round to finish with a 151 (+7). Moore finished in a tie for sixth overall, 11 strokes off the leader.

Senior Miguel Siercke was consistent for the Wildcats, posting identical 77-77 rounds on Friday for a 154 (+10). Sierkce finished in a tie for 14th overall.

Freshman Braden McKay improved his day by three strokes in the second round, starting with a 1 79 in the first stanza. He backed that up with a 76 in the second round for a 155 (+11) to finish in a tie for 20th overall.

Ryan Rucinski rounded out the Wildcats scoring on Friday with an 78-82, finishing in 33rd overall with a 160 (+16) in the two-round, one-day tournament.

Le Moyne's John Clare paced the field with a 71-69, finishing as the only player under par with a 140 (-4) for the tournament. Clare finished four strokes ahead of Goldey-Beacom's Garrett Brown who shot a 74-70 for a 144 (E) invitational.

Next on the scheduled for the Wildcats is the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships in which the Wildcats are shooting for their Seventh Consecutive conference crown. The two-day tournament begins Tuesday, April 25, at the Wildcats home course, Back Creek Golf Club, in Middletown, Del.
