Men’s Basketball’s Jermaine Head Named First Team All-CACC

Press Release Written by Sports Information Graduate Intern Mary Kate Rumbaugh

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – For the third time in his illustrious career, Wilmington University men's basketball's Jermaine Head has been named All-CACC, this time being named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference First Team, as announced by the conference this Tuesday.

He becomes just the second person in the men's program history to be named All-CACC in three separate seasons, joining Taurean Temple who earned it from 2005-2008.

Concluding the regular season, Head (Edgewater, Maryland/Joppatowne) has broken several program records, including his most recent milestone of surpassing Tyaire Ponzo-Meek in career points, now sitting at 1,851, along with assists in a career currently sitting with 447. The red shirt senior has started and played in all 29 games so far this season, sitting first in the conference averaging 23.1 points per game, while shooting 46.3 percent from the floor. He is also second in the league shooting 86.9 percent from the free throw line, connecting on 152 of his 175 attempts following the CACC Quarterfinal on Tuesday night. On January 25, Head recorded a career-high 41 points at Nyack, shooting 14-20 from the floor, 4-5 from behind the arc, and 9-11 from the foul line in all 40 minutes played.

Head also sits fourth overall in the conference dishing out 5.5 assists per game, while sitting first in the CACC making 2.3 steals per game. The 6'0 guard broke the record of points scored in a season, now with 671, originally set by Ponzo-Meek in 2015-16.

Among the major award winners included, Jefferson's Kylan Guerra who earned CACC Player of the Year, along with Dominican's Tedrick Wilcox who earned CACC Rookie of the Year, and Jason Copman who was named CACC Defensive Player of the Year. Jefferson's head coach Herb Magee was named CACC Coach of the Year, with the University of the Sciences earning the Team Sportsmanship Award.

After last night's 76-69 upset victory over the North Division's No. 2 Post, the Wildcats head to the CACC Tournament Semifinals against the South Division's and overall No. 1 seed Jefferson on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at the University of the Sciences.
