Danny Walsh Named CACC Co-Player of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Riding a hot hand and leading his team to a berth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, graduate student Danny Walsh was named a CACC Co-Player of the Week by the conference office today.

Since the calendar flipped over to 2022, Danny Walsh (Bear, Del./William Penn) has led the Wildcats in scoring 18.5 points per game, shooting at a .497 clip, and carrying a 3.3 assist to turnover ratio. He's scored 20 or more points in six of the 13 games played, including three straight games and five of the last seven overall.

Last week, he helped lead the Wildcats to a 2-0 week, including clinching a berth in the CACC Tournament for the fifth straight year (not including the 2020-21 season in which they did not participate in). He averaged 22.5 points per game last week, shooting 55.2 percent from the floor, including 41.7 percent from three-point range, made all eight of his free throws, and averaged 2.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.0 steals a game.

The week started with 24 points against Georgian Court, redeeming a buzzer-beating loss against the Lions earlier in the season. He shot 8-for-15 from the floor, hitting 2-of-5 from three, and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line.

Looking to clinch the playoff spot, Walsh led the Wildcats with 21 points at Chestnut Hill on Saturday, shooting 8-for-14 from the floor, including 3-for-7 from three-point land. He also grabbed three rebounds and had an assist in the win.

For the season, he is second on the team in averaging 13.8 points per game, shooting 45 percent from the floor and 88.3 percent from the foul line.

Walsh was named a Co-Player of the Week with Felician's Jaylen Colon who averaged 22.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in a 2-0 week.

The regular season concludes on Saturday at crosstown rival Goldey-Beacom. The men tip-off at 3:00 p.m.
