Men’s Lacrosse Placed Sixth in First Official NCAA Regional Rankings

NEWARK, Del. - - The first installment of the NCAA Regional Rankings was announced on Wednesday and for the first time in program history, the Wilmington University men's lacrosse team was among the eight teams from the North Region, coming in at No. 6.

With one game left in the regular season, the Wildcats are 9-3 overall and 5-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play. More important to the Regional Advisory Committee (RAC), the Wildcats are 8-2 in North Region play.

The North Region consists of four conferences in NCAA DII: the Northeast 10, the CACC, the East Coast Conference (ECC), and the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).

There are two more official Regional Rankings to be published prior to the RAC and the National Committees get together to select the participants for the 2022 NCAA National Tournament. The NCAA Selection Show is scheduled for Sunday, May 8. There are no automatic qualifiers for winning a conference championship in NCAA DII Men's Lacrosse.

The NCAA National Tournament consists of 12 programs (six from each region) to play in a single-elimination tournament starting on Wednesday, May 11. A National Champion will be crowned on Sunday, May 29, at the Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut.

The Wildcats play at Post on Saturday in the final game of the regular season. They already have the No. 1 seed locked up for the upcoming CACC Tournament due to the head-to-head result with Chestnut Hill, but a win (or Chestnut Hill loss) on Saturday would give them the 2022 CACC Regular Season Championship outright with a perfect 6-0 mark.

The CACC Tournament Semifinals will be played on Thursday, April 28 at Georgian Court with a champion to be crowned on Saturday, April 30.
