NEWARK, Del. - - Seniors Annie Davila and Alyssa Velasquez can add All-Region to their collegiate resumes, as both were mentioned with the announcement of the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-East Region Teams. Davila was also named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-East Region as well.
The seniors helped lead the Wildcats to a 19-15 overall record and a spot in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Semifinals. Both Davila and Velasquez were named Second Team All-East Region in a vote of the region's sports information directors for the D2CCA, and Davila was a Second Team All-East Region selection by the region's head coaches in the NFCA announcement.
Annie Davila (Yorba Linda, Calif.) led the CACC with 10 homers, setting a new Wilmington single season program record in the process. She was fourth on the team with a .347 batting average, going 35-for-101 with six doubles, 10 homers, and tying for the team lead with 29 RBI. Davila led the team and finished eighth in the CACC with a .703 slugging percentage.
It is the second time in her career that Davila has been named All-Region, as she was also a Second Team D2CCA All-Region performer in 2018. Davila became the program's all-time leading home run hitter, finishing her career with 22. She is a career .309 hitter with 125 hits, 18 doubles, a triple, 101 RBI and 64 runs scored.
Alyssa Velasquez (Indio, Calif.) was awarded All-Region for the first time in her career after finishing second on the team with a .362 batting average. She led the team with 12 walks and getting on base at a .436 clip. She batted 34-for-94 with 6 doubles, two home runs, 23 RBI, and 21 runs scored. She hit safely in 11 of her final 12 games of the season.
For her career, Velasquez is a .301 hitter, going 164-for-544 with 23 doubles, six triples, and six home runs. She has 98 RBI and has scored 130 runs in her career, all while being a defensive stalwart at shortstop since her freshman season. She is the all-time program leader with 202 career starts and second all-time with 203 games played.
The duo helped lead the team to the 2019 CACC Tournament Championship and trips to the NCAA East Regional Championship in 2017 and 2019, including being the first team in program history to host a regional in 2019.
