Tyler Levons Earns Second CACC Track Athlete of the Week Award

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Wilmington University track and field team took on the Maryland Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland this past Saturday. Tyler Levons was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday for his efforts on Saturday.

Tyler Levons (Laurel, Md.) earns his second CACC Athlete of the Week award in the second week of the reports. Levons showed a strong presence in the 400-meter dash finishing fourth overall with a time of 50.61 seconds out of 26 runners. Levons also sprinted across the line at 11.42 seconds in the 100-meter dash, this time earning him a seventh-place finish out of 30 sprinters. Levons was also the third leg in the 4x100 meter relay team, which consisted of James Keenan, Matthew Hibbert, and Taf Bunu. The relay team finished third overall with a time of 42.79 seconds.

Freshman Matt Gonzalez found himself on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll, with an impressive performance at the Maryland Invitational. He came in second place overall and first colligate finisher in the 3,000-meter race, with a time of 9:06.49. Gonzalez also finished 10th overall (9th colligate) in the 800-Meter Run and 7th overall (6th colligate) in the 1,500-meter run.

Freshman Akeel Blake added another reward to his resume by being named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll. Blake was previously the Field Athlete and Field Rookie Athlete of the Week in the previous poll. On Saturday, Blake competed in four events. Blake was 5th overall (4th colligate) in the high jump, 3rd overall in the long jump, 3rd overall in the triple jump, and 10th overall (9th colligate) in the 200-meter dash.

The Wildcats are back on the road this weekend, as they make the short trip to Glassboro, New Jersey, to take part in the Oscar Moore Invite Challenge at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium, hosted by Rowan University.
