NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Wilmington University Track & Field team traveled 45 minutes northeast to Rowan University to partake in the 2022 Oscar Moore Invite last Saturday, March 26. Matt Gonzalez of the Wilmington University Men's Track and Field team was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Track Rookie Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

Matt Gonzalez (East Brunswick, N.J.) shined back in his home state of New Jersey and had a career day. He set a personal record in both the 1,500-meter race and the 3,000-meter race. Gonzalez finished third in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:05.19. That time awarded Gonzalez with the new school record. Gonzalez blew away the field in the 3,000-meter run, becoming the first-ever Wildcat to run under 9-minutes in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:58.33 and the only runner at the meet to run under 9 minutes. Gonzalez currently ranks second overall in the 1,500-meter race in the CACC.

The Wildcats have a busy weekend ahead of them as the sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers, and throwers head to Maryland to take part in a two-day track meet at the Townson Invitational on Friday, April 1, and Saturday, April 2. The distance runners will travel to Pennsylvania to run in the Widener Invitational, hosted by Widener University, which is also on the same two days.
