NEWARK, Del. - - The 2021-22 Academic All-District Men's Track and Field / Cross Country Teams were announced and three Wilmington University standout student-athletes were selected in a vote by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

In a vote of the East Region's sports information directors, senior thrower Joshua Varghese, junior sprinter Matt Hibbert, and junior distance runner Logan Strouse all earned a spot on the All-District team and will have a chance at being voted as an Academic All-American.

The 2021‐22 Academic All‐District® Men's Track & Field / Cross Country Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances in the competition realm and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All‐America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Senior Joshua Varghese (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) has proved himself both in the field and in the classroom. He became the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) champion in the discus throw with a distance of 41.98 meters this season. He also finished second overall in the hammer throw and finished fourth place in the shot put at the CACC Championships as well. In the classroom, the Health Sciences major is carrying a 3.61 cumulative grade point average into his final year of eligibility.

Junior Matt Hibbert (New Castle, Del./William Penn) had the best finish in the 100-meter event at the CACC Championships for the Wildcats, placing fourth overall with a time of 11.03 seconds. He also finished seventh overall in the 200-meter event, earning points for the Wildcats with a time of 22.43 seconds. He had a season's best time of 10.85 in the 100-meter and 22.34 seconds in the 200-meter event, both at the Temple Invite. In the classroom, Hibbert is excelling while studying for his Computer Science degree, earning a 3.63 cumulative GPA.

Junior Logan Strouse (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy) was the CACC Top XVI award winner for both the 2021 cross country season and the 2022 track and field season with a perfect 4.0 grade point average while studying to become a teacher. On the cross country course this fall, he finished 17th at the CACC Championships and set a new 10K personal record at the East Regional Championships with a time of 34:38.8. He then finished seventh overall at the CACC Championships in the 1500-meter run, crossing the line in 4:17.64. He also ran to a 13th place finish in the 5K race, finishing in 17:02.24.
