Women’s Basketball with Five Wildcats in Double-Figures to Secure Second Victory with 89-59 Win over Felician

NEWARK, Del. – Outscoring them throughout each quarter, the Wilmington University women's basketball team secured its second win of the season with a victory over Felician, 89-59, Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

The Wildcats (2-14, 2-6 CACC) were led by five players in double-figures, including graduate student LaShyra Williams and junior Sabreen Muslim who both secured a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds each to defeat cross-division foe Felician (2-13, 1-7 CACC).

The Golden Falcons would get on the board first to start the contest, but Wilmington would get out to a 15-7 lead with 3:25 to play after Kasha Andrews knocked down her second three of the game. WilmU would hold the Golden Falcons to just eight points in the quarter after going on a 21-5 run heading into the second quarter.

Felician would bring the score to a 10-point lead, but Sabreen Muslim would score the next six points for the Wildcats to help extend the lead to 29-13 just three minutes in. WilmU would shoot 50 percent from the floor in the quarter, making 8-16 of their shots to jump out to a 16-point difference at the half, making it 42-26.

Felician came out into the second half scoring the first five points to cut the score to within 11, but Andrews and LaShyra Williams helped get six points back on the Wildcats next three shots to go back up 17 with 6:39 to go. With 1:16 left in the third, Kasha Andrews would hit her third three of the game to give WilmU their largest lead of the game so far of 23, before a Kiara Eubanks foul shot gave the Wildcats a 68-44 lead.

The Wildcats would have their best quarter from the floor in the third quarter shooting, 57.9 present, making 11-19 field goals. LaShyra Williams would chip in 13 in the quarter, going 6-10 from the floor.

Wilmington would continue their run into the final quarter, starting on a 10-4 run to extend their lead to 31 points with 5:54 to play in regulation. Sabreen Muslim would score 10 of her 20 points in the quarter, going 4-5 from the floor with six rebounds.

Kasha Andrews would add 16 points, going 6-14 from the floor with five assists, as Tiffany Jackson added 12 points and six rebounds. Kiara Eubanks would be the fifth Wildcat in double-figures with 11 points, while adding seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

The Wildcats are back on the court this Tuesday when USciences comes to the Complex for a South Division matchup. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m.
