Women’s Basketball Standout Amelia Simmons (’10) Named Honorable Mention on D2 East Hoops All-Decade Team

NEWARK, Del. – Entering the new decade, the D2 East Women's All-Decade Teams for the 2010's have been announced by Tim McCaffrey and Stephen Zerdelian of D2 East Hoops, where Wilmington University women's basketball standout Amelia Simmons earned All-Region Honorable Mention.

Simmons (2006-10) adds on to her record-breaking achievements at Wilmington, earning the East Region Honorable Mention of the Decade. She remains Wilmington's all-time leader in program history in 17 categories, including career points, with 2,267; points in a season, with 609; and scoring average in a career with 19.4.

Simmons is also the lone player in program history to be named a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Award Winner, earning CACC Rookie of the Year in 2006-07, and CACC Player of the Year her senior season back in 2009-10. Her sophomore and junior year resulted with a CACC First Team recognition, also. She finished out her career as the only All-American, as well as she notched the WBCA Honorable Mention in 2009-10.

In 2010, the lone year in which she played in the decade, she led the CACC in points, averaging 21.8 ppg, while sitting fourth in the conference with a 48.6 field goal percentage. Simmons also finished sixth in free throw percentage, shooting 81.6 percent from the line, and first overall with a three-point field goal percentage of 46.1 percent. The forward also averaged 9.6 rebounds per game, sitting first on the team and third in the league, while playing and starting in all 28 contests.

She was one of 12 CACC players throughout the decade to be recognized as an Honorable Mention. Lauren Battista (Bentley '14) was named East Region Player of the Decade.
