NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Wilmington University women's soccer team is set to take the field for the first time since November 2019, and earned one first place vote and 85 total points overall to be picked sixth in the 2021 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
When last seen, the Wildcats finished tied for sixth in the 2019 CACC Regular Season, earning the seventh seed for the 2019 CACC Tournament. When the Wildcats take the pitch on September 3, it will be 661 days since they last played a regulation match.
Six teams competed in the 2021 Spring Season with Thomas Jefferson coming out on top over Holy Family in the CACC Tournament Championship. Thomas Jefferson also won the 2019 CACC Tournament Championship, easily leading coaches to place them atop the 2021 CACC Preseason Poll with nine first place votes and 130 total points.
Holy Family picked up one first place vote and 119 total point to easily slide into second in the preseason poll while Georgian Court added one first place vote and 100 total points to finish third in the poll. Caldwell, the 2018 CACC Tournament Champions, finished with 96 total points for fourth place.
Dominican finished fifth with 86 points with the Wildcats close on its heels with 85 points for sixth place. The Wildcats picked up the 12th and final first place vote in the poll.
Goldey-Beacom finished seventh with 74 points while Nyack rounds out the predicted 2021 CACC Tournament teams with 63 points and in eighth place.
Post was in a close ninth with 63 points while Chestnut Hill (45 points), Bloomfield (34 points), and Felician (31 points) round out the poll.
The Wildcats open the 2021 campaign at home when they take on Daemen on Friday, September 3. Kickoff against Daemen is slated for 12:00 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.
