Wilmington Women’s Tennis Sit Atop First NCAA East Regional Poll

NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team already has the automatic qualification into the NCAA Regional locked up, but the team is still pushing through the spring season, earning the No. 1 rank in the first NCAA Regional Poll that was announced last week.

The Wildcats are 15-2 overall this season and are 13-1 against NCAA Division II regional opponents on the year. Their head-to-head win over the District of Columbia this spring propelled them above the Firebirds and into first place.

The District of Columbia rank second followed by St. Thomas Aquinas in third. The Spartans are the only NCAA Division II team to beat the Wildcats so far this season. Queens (N.Y.) was positioned fourth in the first regional poll followed by Le Moyne, Franklin Pierce, Southern New Hampshire, and Adelphi.

Wilmington (CACC), Franklin Pierce (NE10), and District of Columbia (ECC) all earned automatic qualifications into the Regionals later this spring by winning their conference tournaments.

The Wildcats head to West Chester on Tuesday for another NCAA DII regional match.
