Women’s Tennis Sit Atop the 2022 CACC Preseason Coaches Poll

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Defending champion Wilmington University was picked first in the 2022 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Tennis Preseason Poll, which was announced on Tuesday by Commissioner Dan Mara. The Wildcats earned 30 points in the voting and five first-place votes. Voting for the poll was conducted by the league's six head coaches in the sport.

Thomas Jefferson University, which reached the 2021 CACC Championship Final, was second in the voting with 25 points and the other possible first-place vote. Chestnut Hill College was third in the voting with 21 points, as the Griffins reached the league semifinals last fall.

The Wildcats used the CACC's Automatic Qualification and went on to host an NCAA Regional Tournament at the Delcastle Tennis Center. They defeated Le Moyne in the Championship to advance to the program's first ever NCAA Division II National Tournament last spring. They went 17-4 overall last year, including 6-0 in CACC play in the fall, and return all but one student-athlete from last year's team.

The 2022 fall regular season will be a buildup to the CACC Championship tournament, which will be conducted the weekend of Oct. 22-23, at the Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, Del. WilmU will serve as the host institution for the event. The winner of the CACC Championship will also earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament in early May at a site to be determined.

The Wildcats' season begins on September 13 when they host Jefferson to start CACC competition at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
