Carmelle Vial Named CACC Rookie of the Year to Lead Two Major Award Winners and Four All-CACC Honorees

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - For the second year in a row, the Wilmington University women's tennis team carried the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year, as the conference office announced its All-CACC selections on Wednesday.

Freshman sensation Carmelle Vial was voted as the CACC Rookie of the Year while her head coach Troy Donato was voted as the CACC Coach of the Year for the second year in row. In addition, Vial was named First Team All-CACC for the 2022 season, joining teammates Neus Ramos Moreno and Valentina Ivankovic. Jess Purdy was voted to the All-CACC Second Team

Carmelle Vial (Sommelonne, France) went a perfect 7-0 in singles play this fall, four such matches at No. 1. She also went 2-0 at No. 2 singles and 1-0 at No. 3 singles. She only lost one match all fall, and that came in her first-ever collegiate doubles match to Jefferson at No. 1. Since that match on September 13, she's gone 7-0, one match with Alva Norberg, and six straight with Fenna Swaan at No. 1 doubles. She is 14-1 overall going into the CACC Tournament this weekend.

For the second year in a row, Neus Ramos Moreno (Denali, Spain) has been voted as a First Team All-CACC performer, following up her CACC Player of the Year campaign a season ago. Ramos Moreno is 7-1 in singles competition this fall, going 2-1 at No. 1, 4-0 at No. 2, and 1-0 at No. 3. She is also 6-2 in doubles competition this fall, teaming up with Jess Purdy to go 6-1 overall. She is 2-1 at No. 1 doubles, 3-1 at No. 2 doubles, and 1-0 at No. 3 doubles so far this year.

Valentina Ivankovic (Oberndorf bei Sbg, Austria) moved up from a Second Team All-CACC selection from a year ago to a First Team All-CACC honoree in her last season as a Wildcat. She has only lost one match all fall, going 9-0 in singles and 5-1 in doubles competition. The only singles match she didn't play in was the most recent one against Dominican, going 3-0 at No. 3 singles, 4-0 at No. 4 singles, and 2-0 at No. 5 singles. She is 5-1 in doubles, going 1-0 at No. 2 doubles and 4-1 at No. 3 doubles.

For the second year in a row, Jess Purdy (Wilmslow, England) has been voted to the All-CACC Second Team, going 7-1 in singles and 6-2 in doubles matches this fall. Her lone singles loss came to the CACC Tournament's No. 2 seed Jefferson, going 3-0 at No. 1 singles, 3-1 at No. 2 singles, and 1-0 at No. 3 singles. She also went 2-2 at No. 1 doubles, 3-0 at No. 2 doubles, and 1-0 at No. 3 doubles. She teamed up with Neus Ramos Moreno to go 6-1 in doubles throughout the fall.

Fourth-year head coach Troy Donato was voted as the CACC Coach of the Year by the league's sports information directors for the second year in a row. He has led the Wildcats to a 10-0 record this fall, 16 straight CACC victories, and back-to-back CACC Regular Season Champions. They head into this weekend's CACC Tournament as the defending champions.
