Tournament Preview: No. 1 Seed Women’s Tennis Hosts 2022 CACC Tournament

WILMINGTON, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team heads into the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament as the No. 1 seed this weekend, being played at the Delcastle Tennis Center on Saturday and Sunday.

2022 CACC Tournament Schedule:
Semifinals – Saturday, October 22

10:00 a.m. - #1 Wilmington vs. #4 Chestnut Hill
1:00 p.m. - #2 Jefferson vs. #3 Post

Championship – Sunday, October 23
12:00 p.m. – Match #1 Winner vs. Match #2 Winner

The Wildcats ran through the CACC regular season undefeated, going a perfect 10-0 to win the Regular Season Championship and earn the No. 1 seed in the Tournament. They will host No. 4 Chestnut Hill in the CACC Tournament Semifinal on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.

Wilmington and Chestnut Hill faced off twice in the regular season with the Wildcats winning 6-1, at Chestnut Hill on October 10, and 4-3 at home on October 15.

In the first meeting, the Wildcats won doubles matches at No. 3 and No. 1 to earn the point. The Wildcats picked up singles wins in all but one of the matches, coming at No. 1 singles. Jess Purdy, Marley Trifunovic, Valentina Ivankovic, Larize Nel, and Fenna Swaan all won their singles matches.

In the second contest five days later, the Wildcats needed to mount a comeback against the Griffins as Chestnut Hill won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3, after FennaSwaan and Valentina Ivankovic started the match with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Carmelle Vial and Ivankovic quickly won their singles matches to give the Wildcats the 2-1 lead, but Chestnut hill won at No. 5 singles to tie the match. Neus Ramos Moreno won at No. 2 to make it 3-2, and then Fenna Swaan capped the team victory with a 6-3 and 6-4 win at No. 6 singles.

The Wildcats had the most student-athletes named First Team All-CACC with three and tied Jefferson with four total All-CACC performers. Carmelle Vial (Sommelonne, France) was voted the CACC Rookie of the Year and First Team All-CACC while being joined by her teammates, Neus Ramos Moreno and Valentina Ivankovic on the First Team. For the second year in a row, Jess Purdy was voted Second Team All-CACC. Also for the second year in a row, Troy Donato was named the CACC Coach of the Year by the league's sports information directors.

The Griffins placed two on the Second Team All-CACC team, anchored by Carlota Garcia Arguelles and Alison Isaac

The Wildcats and Griffins will start the day with a 10:00 a.m. first serve following by No. 2 seed Jefferson and No. 3 seed Post starting at 1:00 p.m.
