Wilmington Volleyball Clinch CACC South Division Title with Five Set Victory Over Nyack

NYACK, N.Y. - - With a five-set victory over Nyack on Saturday afternoon, the Wilmington University volleyball team clinched the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division Regular Season Championship for the second year in a row on Saturday afternoon at Bowman Gymnasium.

Set scores for the match were 25-19, 16-25, 24-26, 25-22, and 15-11.

It is the second year in a row the Wildcats (22-9, 17-2 CACC) won the CACC South Division Regular Season Championship and the South's top seed in next week's CACC Tournament Championship. Last year, the Wildcats fell to Dominican in the CACC Tournament Championship match.

Senior Brittany Biddle was the lone Wildcat to record double figures in kills, tallying 10 while not committing an error on 28 swings to finish with a .357 attack percentage for the match.

The major key for the Wildcats was the defense at the net on Saturday, as they out blocked the Warriors (17-15, 13-6 CACC), 12-6, in the contest.

Senior middle hitter Katie Shorter collected a team high two solo blocks while adding a team high five block assists to lead the Wildcats at the net. Biddle added a solo block as four block assists to aid in the defensive effort while Hannah Karas chipped in with four block assists as well. Alex Siolos was the final Wildcat to tally a block assist in the match, collected three on the afternoon.

As a team, the Wildcats hit .214 for the match, including a match high .381 in the first set against the Warriors. They also hit .276 with eight kills on 29 attempts without recording an error in the fifth and deciding set.

The Wildcats not host a 2013 CACC Tournament Quarterfinal match for the second year in a row, with the game schedule to begin on Tuesday. Wilmington will host the North's fourth seed Felician at the WU Athletics Complex on Tuesday, starting at 7 p.m.
