Georgian Court Evens Season Series with 3-0 Victory over Wilmington Volleyball

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - - Georgian Court was too much for the Wilmington University volleyball team on its home court, evening up the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference season series with a 3-0 victory in the Wellness Center on Thursday night.

Set scores for the match were 25-15, 25-22, and 25-14.

The Lions (19-5, 10-2 CACC) hit .316 for the match and picked up 46 digs in only allowing the Wildcats to a .108 hitting percentage.

The Lions jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first set, and used another 3-0 spurt to regain a 12-7 lead. An Elly Collins service ace brought the Wildcats to within 15-11, , but the home team scored six of the next eight points, opening up a 21-13 lead. The Wildcats scored back-to-back points, but then the Lions closed out the set with the final four points, 25-15.

Emma Kongevold put down a kill and teamed up with Dorie Moore for a block to tie the second set at 9-9, but then the Lions rattled off four straight in route to a 6-1 run for a 15-10 lead. A three-point run, capped by a block by Kongevold and Angel Oliver, brought the Wildcats to within 20-17, and still had the deficit at three at 22-19. But the Lions scored back-to-back points to force Wilmington into a timeout, and the Wildcats could only get to within 24-22 before the home team closed it out.

A 4-1 run early in the third set gave the Wildcats a 7-5 lead, but once again the Lions had an answer, as they went on a 5-0 run to force a Wildcat timeout. But the timeout didn't slow down the Lions, as they came back out and scored five more consecutive points, gaining a 15-7 lead. Another 6-2 run gave the home team a 23-10 lead and the Wildcats could only get as close as 24-14 before Georgian Court finished off the set, 25-14, and the match, 3-0.

Bailey Andrews led the Wildcats with nine kills while Emma Kongevold and Rebecca Rawlinson finished with five kills each. Kongevold added three block assists and a solo block for four total blocks.

Sarah Couch dished out 20 assists while Elly Collins led the team with seven digs. Mandy Behiels added six digs for the match as well.

The Wildcats return home for their next match, as they host Dominican on Saturday afternoon. The first serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
