NEWARK, Del. - - For the third year in a row, and ninth overall, the Wilmington University volleyball team earned a spot on the 2020-21 United State Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Academic Award List.

Additionally, the Wildcats were in the top 20 percent of NCAA Division II team grade point averages, giving them Team Academic Honor Roll distinction as well.

The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.

In total, 1,281 collegiate and high school teams earn the 2020-21 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award.

The Wildcats are one of the top 33 teams in all of NCAA DII in terms of team GPA, and the only team from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in the top 20% and a Team Academic Honor Roll member. The Wildcats join Adelphi, Franklin Pierce, and New Haven as the only teams in the top 20 percent from the East Region.

Wilmington first placed on the Academic Award List in 2010 and have only missed three seasons since then. Their longest consecutive streak was five years from 2012-16. It is the second year in a row they earned the Team Academic Honor Roll distinction.
