Heather Pedrick and Shawn Genus Named CACC Players of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Coming down the home stretch of the 2021 fall regular season, the Wilmington University athletic programs are still shining, as volleyball's Heather Pedrick and men's soccer's Shawn Genus have been named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the Week on Monday.

Heather Pedrick (High Springs, Fla.) helped lead the volleyball team to a 3-1 week while Shawn Genus (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) powered the men's soccer team to a 2-0 week last week.

Pedrick led the Wildcats in kills and aces and was second in assists and digs while finishing third on the team in blocks in four matches last week. The right side hitter and setter averaged 3.00 kills, 4.00 assists, 0.36 aces, 5.00 digs, and 0.86 blocks per set in a 3-1 week. She had two triple-doubles last week, first at Holy Family with 10 kills, 18 assists, and 21 digs, and then against Millersville with 12 kills, 19 assists, and 11 digs, and now leads all of NCAA Division II with eight triple-doubles on the year. She hit a week's best .458 against Caldwell with 12 kills and only one error, adding 16 digs. The transfer added eight kills, 10 assists, and a week's best 22 digs in three sets against Mercy. She also had a season high six block assists against Millersville. 

Genus is the Wildcats leading scorer and with a solid week on the scoreboard has jumped back into the CACC leaderboards with five goals and two assists in two games. The senior forward had the game-winner in each contest as well, scoring two goals and adding two assists against Holy Family and then secured a hat trick with all three goals at Dominican in a 3-2 win. Genus is now tied for the league lead with 15 goals and is second overall with 36 points on the year.

The women's soccer team went 1-1 last week, defeating Holy Family, 3-0, before falling to Dominican, 1-0. Emily Camp made 12 saves in the week while Jimena Garcia Risoto scored a goal and an assist, landing on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll.
