NEWARK, Del. - - Junior middle hitter Angel Oliver becomes the second Wilmington University volleyball player to earn All-Region status in its NCAA era, being voted to the First Team Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-East Region Team on Wednesday.
In a vote of the region's sports information directors, Angel Oliver joins former middle hitter Katie Shorter (2012) as the only two Wildcats in program history to be named All-Region, both serving on the First Team.
Angel Oliver (Jersey City, N.J.) broke multiple block records for a single season in program history, breaking Katie Shorter's mark of 114 block assists with 134 this season. Oliver also broke Shorter's record of 175 total blocks by recording 176 total denials this year. She tied Shorter's single match record with 13 total blocks at American International on September 4, while tying the single match program record of 10 block assists in the same game. Oliver also had 10 total blocks against Le Moyne and totaled 12 total blocks with five solo in the regular season finale at Felician.
She finished her season with 246 kills (1.97 per set), hitting at a .255 clip. She came away with 42 solo blocks and 134 block assists for 176 total blocks, averaging 1.41 per set, ranking third in all of NCAA Division II. Her 176 total blocks lead all of NCAA Division II. She finished third on the team with 376 points this year, averaging 3.01 points per set.
