Kim Huggins-Habbert begins her 20th season as the head coach of the Wilmington volleyball program in 2023. Being the only coach in program history since the University joined the NCAA Division II ranks in 2004, she enters the 2023 season with a 330-263 (.556) overall record.

During her tenure at the helm of the Wildcats, Huggins-Habbert’s student-athletes have earned 43 All-CACC honors, two CACC Player of the Year Awards, two CACC Rookie of the Year awards, two CACC Defensive Player of the Year awards, and five different All-Region accolades. She won her 300th career game on Saturday, September 25, 2021, against Goldey-Beacom in front of the Homecoming crowd. 

Huggins-Habbert has had the Wildcats in the CACC Tournament in all but five seasons since 2004, with a string of five straight trips to at least the CACC Tournament Semifinals snapped in 2016. The Wildcats won 20 or more games nine times under Huggins-Habbert, including six straight seasons from 2010-2015.

The Wildcats were once again contenders in the CACC in 2015, finishing second in the South Division during the regular season before advancing to at least the CACC Tournament Semifinals for the fifth year in a row. The Wildcats went 23-10 overall in 2015, finishing 15-4 in the CACC. It was the sixth year in a row the Wildcats have won at least 20 matches throughout the year.

Huggins-Habbert and the Wildcats were one step away from their ultimate goal of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship in 2012, falling to Dominican in the title match. The Wildcats blazed through the regular season, going 28-6 overall and 18-1 in the CACC to capture the South Division Regular Season Championship. Huggins-Habbert coached the CACC Player of the Year, as well as her first AVCA All-Region Player in 2012. The Wildcats had four players named All-CACC, three of which return for the 2013 season.

In her first season as head coach, Huggins-Habbert coached the team to a perfect 20-0 CACC record and a 27-9 overall record. The team won both the CACC regular season and tournament titles, earning the program and University’s first berth into the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Championship.

Huggins-Habbert became the head coach of the Wildcat program after one year as an assistant in 2003 where she once again helped coach the team to a perfect 18-0 conference record and a 27-10 overall record. That team was unable to compete in the CACC Tournament, however, due to the NCAA provisional time table.

Prior to joining the Wilmington University ranks, Huggins-Habbert spent 10 years at the helm of the Christiana High School bench in Newark, Del. She helped lead the Vikings to two Blue Hen Conference titles and an appearance in the Delaware State finals. She was awarded the Delaware Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association Coach of the Year award in 1995 and finished her high school coaching career with a record of 113-66.

Huggins-Habbert became a coach after a successful collegiate career at NCAA Division I James Madison University where she was an outside hitter and a defensive specialist for the Dukes.

She is very active in all areas of volleyball in Delaware. Huggins-Habbert serves on the board of the Delaware Volleyball Coaches Association and is the director of First State Volleyball club which promotes volleyball players ranging from ages 11 through 18. That club has sent two teams to the United States Volleyball Association National Tournament.

Huggins-Habbert graduated from James Madison University with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and secondary education and earned her master’s degree in school counseling from Wilmington University. She is currently employed as a guidance counselor at Christiana High School.
