Softball Places Five Student-Athletes on 2023 CACC Softball All-Academic Team
June 07, 2023Seventy-nine (79) student-athletes on Wednesday were named to the 2023 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball All-Academic Team, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. Twelve (12) of the 13 CACC schools that compete in the sport were represented on the All-Academic Team.

May 19, 2023A four-run 3rd inning and a four-run 7th inning paced the 24th ranked and No. 2 seed Wilmington University softball team to a 10-1 victory over 12th ranked and No. 1 seed Adelphi in the first game of the best-of-three Super Regional series on Thursday. Tristyn Stewart went 3-for-4 with a 2-run single to spur the 3rd inning while Bri Coyle went 2-for-4 with a 2-run single in the 7th for insurance runs. Taylor Gillis and Sara Miller also had two hits in the game. Kylee Gunkel went the distance for the Wildcats, allowing a run on seven hits with four strikeouts, improving to 22-5 on the year. Jess Reed brought in Haley Downin for the go-ahead run and then Taylor Gillis hit a two-run single to give the Wildcats some breathing room. Brook Koehler came on in relief and struck out the side in the sixth and had four total in picking up the win. May 12, 2023Kylee Gunkel was magnificent in the circle once again for the Wildcats, as they defeated Georgian Court, 5-0, to advance to the NCAA DII East Region 2 Final on Saturday out of the winner's bracket. Jess Reed had two RBI in the game and Haley Downin had two doubles. Downin and Sara Miller had three hits each in the win. Gunkel improves to 21-5 on the year, breaking the WilmU single-season wins record in the process. They advance to face No. 3 Georgian Court in the CACC Championship on Saturday, needing two wins to take the CACC Title. The Wildcats trailed 4-3 heading into the seventh, but Delani Sheehan sparked the comeback with a leadoff double, all leading to Stewart's heroics. May 06, 2023For the fourth time in program history, the Wilmington University softball team won the CACC Tournament Championship, coming from the elimination bracket to defeat Georgian Court twice on Saturday. They beat the Lions, 7-3, in game one, using a six-run fourth inning to turn the game over. Kylee Gunkel then threw a complete-game 5-hit shutout to close out the Championship. The Wildcats scored all three runs in the bottom of the first, getting a leadoff homer from Taylor Gillis, an RBI double by Sara Miller, and a two-out RBI single from Haley Downin. The Wildcats also won championships in 2014, 2016, and 2019, all under head coach Mike Shehorn. Delani Sheehan, who tossed a complete game in the opener on Saturday, was named the CACC Tournament MVP. Andrew Bern on the call on the CACC Network.

April 29, 2023Kylee Gunkel and Delani Sheehan pitched #WilmUSoftball past Goldey-Beacom in a 6-0 first-round victory in the 2023 CACC Championship Tournament Saturday at Asbury Field. The win gives the top-seeded Wildcats their first win over Goldey-Beacom in the playoffs in program history (1-1). The victory advances the Wildcats (35-12) to the double-elimination portion of the CACC Tournament starting Thursday, hosted by Georgian Court. Kylee Gunkel picked up her 17th win of the season in the circle and was perfect through the first four innings, retiring the first 12 batters she faced. Delani Sheehan came in for the save in the sixth inning and struck out the six batters she saw to earn the save and send the Wildcats to the semifinals of the CACC Tournament.
