Men Finish 12th and the Women 20th at the Princeton Cross Country Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. - - Running at the prestigious Princeton Cross Country Invitational, the Wilmington University men's cross country team finished 12th of 27 teams while the women placed 20th of 29 teams on Saturday afternoon on the West Windsor Field.

Senior Tyler Muse paced the men's team with 22 points, finishing 40th overall while junior Megan Ferrick paced the women's team with 23 points, finishing 35th overall.

Ferrick ran at a 6:24 mile pace, crossing the line in 23:51. She was the 35th runner to finish, but the 23rd finished in the team competition to give the Wildcats 23 points.

Senior Jeanette Halliburton was the second Wildcat finisher with an 86th place overall finish, but earned 69 points with a time of 24:52. Classmate SaraBeth Oppermann placed 104th overall, earning 84 points with a time of 25:09.

Graduate student Tijen Ozcan earned 150 points after finishing 210th overall at Princeton, running at a 7:15 clip for a 26:59 final time. Junior Morgan Ferrick was the fifth finisher for the Wildcats, crossing the line 221st overall to earn 155 points with a time of 27:12.

Junior Bailey Brooks finished 174th in the team competition, finishing in 28:44 while sophomore Rachel Jones was the final Wildcat to cross, finishing 180th in the team competition with a time of 29:18.

The Wildcats earned 481 points to finish in 20th place overall. The team trailed St. Joseph's by one point and finished just ahead of Georgian Court. Cornell won the team competition with 69 points with Cornell's Mackenzie Lemiuex won medalist honors with a time of 22:30.

Muse led the men's team with a 40th place finish, coming in 22nd in the team competition for 22 points. His 5:17 mile pace was good enough for a time of 26:14.

Graduate student Mark Hannagan was the second Wildcat finisher with 52 points, finishing 80th overall with a time of 26:46. Freshman Andrew Milham finished 104th overall with 72 points, running at a 5:27 clip for a final time of 27:05.

Sophomore Ken Fontal gave the Wildcats 75 points after finishing 109th overall with a time of 27:07. Fontal ran at a 5:28 clip for the Wildcats. Senior Matt Mossman earned 140 points with a 244 overall finish, crossing the line in 28:55 and rounding out the Wilmington score.

Junior Quinn Marvel finished in 261st place overall and 146th in the team competition, running at a 5:53 clip with a time of 29:12. Senior Mike Wright rounded out the Wildcat runners with a 310 overall finish, and 166th in the team competition. His pace of 6:23 was good enough for a 31:42 final time.

Freshman Nick Giustiniano, running as an individual, placed 335th overall with a time of 37:54.

The Wildcats finished with 361 points, finishing ahead of Lehigh and just behind Moravian. Penn won the team competition with 32 points while Adelphi's Nicholas Filippazzo earned medalist honors with a time of 24:25.

The Wildcats are off until November as they prepare for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship on Sunday, November 2. The race is on Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park in Philadelphia.
