Wilmington Men Claim Eighth Straight CACC Alfred R. Restaino Sr. Cup; Women Place Fourth Overall

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - For the eighth year in a row, the Wilmington University men captured the 2016-17 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Alfred R. Restaino Sr. Cup with the women finishing fourth overall, as announced by CACC Commissioner Dan Mara.

The Caldwell women's programs captured the women's cup, followed by Georgian Court and Philadelphia. Georgian Court and Bloomfield trailed the Wildcats on the men's side to round out the top three.

The cups are awarded annually to the institution that performs at the highest level in all CACC-sponsored men's sports. The point system used for the award takes into account each athletic program's finish in both the 2016-17 CACC regular season contests and conference tournaments. Each institution receives a combined point total and the sum is then divided by the number of sports the institution sponsors.

When combined, the Wilmington University athletics department finished second of 14 institutions with an average score of 10.6083 for its 12 programs. Georgian Court University topped the combined list with an average score of 10.7545 for their 11 programs, with both the men and women finishing second overall in their respective Restaino Cup standings.

The men's Restaino Cup was claimed with an 12.55 average over five sports, led by CACC Championships claimed by the cross country (14 points) and golf (14 points) teams. Men's soccer (11.75 average) and baseball (12.5 average) reached as far as their CACC Tournament Semifinal rounds while men's basketball (10.5 average) advanced to the CACC Tournament quarterfinal round as well.

The Wildcat women were led by the women's tennis team, competing in their first CACC season. They averaged 12.25 points for their performance, reaching the CACC Tournament semifinals.
