NEWARK, Del. - - All three goals scored in Monday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament First Round game came in the opening 11 minutes, as it was No. 5 Jefferson who came out on top, 2-1, to upset the No. 4 Wilmington University men's soccer team at the WU Athletics Complex.

The win knocks the Wildcats out of the CACC Tournament while Jefferson advances to play No. 1 seed Post in the CACC Tournament Semifinal on Friday hosted at Bridgeport. The Wildcats are now 8-6-4 overall and were ranked No. 10 in the latest NCAA Super Region 1 Poll. The NCAA Selection Show is next Monday, November 13.

A pair of misplays in the back row led to a couple of early chances for the Rams, as they scored on the second one. After a turnover, Gabe Paz's shot hit the underside of the crossbar and hit inside the goal line before bouncing out, giving the Rams a 1-0 lead just 1:37 into the match.

The Wildcats responded with shots from Adrian Lekaj and Jeremie Briquet, and then had another chance inside the 18-yard box that resulted in a penalty kick. Malthe Hannesbo got a touch on the ball passed the goalkeeper and then was brought down. Jeremie Briquet buried the chance and the Wildcats tied the game, 1-1, just 8:47 into the game.

But the Rams didn't hang back and moments later created their own chance in the box. Charlie Phillips came off his line to make a play on the ball, but fouled the Ram attacker in the box and Jefferson had its own chance at the penalty spot. Paz scored his second goal of the game to give the Rams the lead, 2-1, just 10:39 into the match.

Jeremie Briquet put a shot on frame in the 12th minute that Matteo Crescente needed to save and Troy Paul had the best chance in the 39th minute, coming off the bench and nearly tipped one past Crescente.

Charlie Phillips made a pair of point-blank saves in the second half to keep the Wildcats within one goal, first in the 63rd minute and again in 73rd minute. Yohan Kim had the best chance for the Wildcats in the second half, but his header in the 72nd minute went off the hands of Crescente and off the crossbar and stayed out.

The Wildcats led in shots, 22-10, corners taken, 8-2, and shots on goal, 10-4. Matteo Crescente made nine saves in goal for the Rams for the win.
