WILMINGTON, Del. - - Alyssa Ruggeri had a part in all three goals in the regular season finale as the Wilmington University women's soccer team defeated Goldey-Beacom, 3-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field to secure the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament.

Playing against her former team, Alyssa Ruggeri (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) tallied two goals and an assist in the game, and now has eight goals and 20 points in 12 games this season.

The win, coupled with a Jefferson victory on Tuesday, secures the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CACC Tournament. The Wildcats will now host the No. 7 seed, either Bridgeport or Chestnut Hill, on Sunday, November 5, at the WU Athletics Complex at 1:00 p.m. Chestnut Hill plays Jefferson on Thursday to determine final seeding positions.

Goldey-Beacom needed a win to keep its postseason hopes alive and came out of the gates playing like its season was on the line. The Lightning's best chance of the half came in the 42nd minute, as Kaitlyn Nolan was in on Mio Nakajima alone. But her shot sailed high of the goal, keeping the game scoreless.

Sharon Freire Omonigho nearly gave the Wildcats the lead in the 40th minute, putting a blast on goal from outside the 18-yard box, but it hit the crossbar and stayed out. The Wildcats would get on the board with their next shot, though.

Off of a goal kick, the high pressure of the Wildcats forced a turnover. Ruggeri got the ball in the middle of the field and her left footed shot from atop the 18-yard box beat the goalkeeper to her left for the 1-0 lead in with 1:51 to play in the half.

The Wildcats got the help by the same crossbar in the second half, as a Lightning shot stayed out in the 51st minute.

Emilie Larsen and Ruggeri played a give-and-go in the 64th minute, as Larsen was in on goal on the right side. Her low shot to the far post trickled in and the Wildcats had a 2-0 lead with 16 minutes to play.

Alyssa Ruggeri finished off the Lightning in the 82nd minute, getting a good look on goal after a handball from 22 yards out. Ruggeri lined up the shot, beat the five-woman wall, and skipped it home for the 3-0 lead.

Mio Nakajima made a save in the 86th minute to preserve the shutout, the team's third straight shutout. She made three saves in the game while the Wildcats and Lightning tied in shots, 10-10.

The win runs the Wildcats' unbeaten streak to 11 straight, going 9-0-2 during that span. They have three straight shutouts as well, defeating Georgian Court, 1-0, Felician, 3-0, and Goldey-Beacom, 3-0.
