Wildcats Shoot Second Round Low 299 to Finish Third at St. Thomas Spring Invitational

BERLIN, Md. - - The Wilmington University golf team shot a second round low score of 299, moving up one spot to finish third overall at the St. Thomas Aquinas Spring Invitational hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas at the Rum Point Golf Course over the weekend.

The Wildcats finished with a 302-299 for a 601 (+25), four strokes off the leaders in both Concordia and Dominican with a 597 (+21). The Wildcats' 299 was the best team score of the second round, and third best of the weekend.

Wilmington was led by junior Ryan Rucinski who posted a 144, even score total in the two rounds. He shot a 71-73 for his 144, finishing five strokes behind the individual winner.

Sergio Ronchel tied Rucinski with the best round for the Wildcats on Sunday, shooting a 73 to move up 23 spots and finish in a tie for 16th overall. He finished the tournament with a 79-73 for a 152 (+8).

Zac Moore moved up seven slots on the leaderboard with a 74 on Sunday, finishing the tournament with a 75-74 for a 149 (+5). Braden McKay rounded out the Wlidcats scoring on Sunday with a 79, moving up six spots to finish in a tie for 46th overall. He finished the tournament with an 83-79 for a 162 (+18).

Enrique Valverde rounded out the Wildcats team on Sunday with an 81, finishing the tournament in a tie for 40th overall. He shot a 77-81 for a 158 (+14).

Senior Matthew Kettleson rounded up the Wildcats on the course for the weekend, posting a 72-77 for a 149 (+5) to finish with teammate Zac Moore in a tie for ninth place overall. Kettleson was playing as an individual for the tournament.

The Wildcats wrap up their regular season this weekend, heading to the Mike Bello Invitational hosted by Le Moyne College. The two-day tournament starts on Thursday. It is the final tournament before the Wildcats head to the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Regional Tournament in May.
