NEWARK, Del. - - The 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's Soccer Teams have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Wilmington University's men's soccer defender Daniel Loyo has been voted as one of the 11 outstanding student-athletes named to the 2017 Academic All-District I Team. Loyo carries a 3.96 cumulative grade point average while studying as a marketing major.

Loyo (Caracas, Venezuela) started the final 17 games of the season on the back row for the Wildcats, scoring two goals while being the focal point on numerous set pieces and corners. He scored against Felician in his second game before tying the game with NYIT with 2:55 left in regulation, leading to a tie.

Since Loyo began starting in the team's third game, the Wildcats defense secured six shutouts, including four in a six-game winning streak to close out the regular season. With Loyo in the lineup, the Wildcats only allowed 15 goals, totaling a 0.86 GAA in 17 games.

The Wildcats went 10-6-3 overall, going 9-3 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, earning the third seed for the CACC Tournament.

The 2017 Academic All-District I Men's Soccer Team featured five student-athletes from the CACC. The Academic All-District Team is automatically nominated for the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, which will be selected later this month.
