NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference announced the selections for the 2016 CACC Softball All-Conference Teams on Tuesday morning and five Wilmington softball players were named as a result of a vote by the league's 14 head coaches.
Junior first baseman Colby Wyatt and sophomore pitcher/outfielder Danielle Bradley were repeat selections to the All-CACC teams, both making an appearance on the First Team. Junior outfielder Becca Stanley, sophomore catcher Shannon Brantley, and freshman second baseman Jazmeen Llamas were all named Second Team All-CACC for their first postseason accolades of their careers.
Bradley is the only First Team All-CACC repeat selection for the Wildcats while Wyatt moves up from her Second Team selection as a sophomore last season.
Wyatt (Harrington, Del./Lake Forest) finished third on the team with a .319 batting average, collecting a team high 45 hits in 141 at-bats. She also led the team with 25 RBI and tied for the team lead with 10 doubles on the season. She is second with four bombs, slugging .504 on the season. Wyatt's 10 doubles rank seventh in the CACC while she is 12th in the conference in RBI.
Bradley (Delmar, Del./Delmar) turned into the team's ace while also competing in the outfield when not in the circle. Although her record was only 6-7, she finished fourth in the CACC with a 1.79 ERA and fourth in only allowing opposing hitters to bat .212 for the year. Her 78 strikeouts rank ninth in the CACC, but her 5.59 strikeouts per seven innings are sixth best in the conference. At the plate, Bradley is a .295 hitter, collecting 26 hits in 122 at-bats. She is third in the CACC with 13 stolen bases while knocking in 16 RBI and scoring 14 more.
Stanley (Claymont, Del./Concord) leads the team with five home runs and is tied atop the team lead with 10 doubles. She also leads the team with a .514 slugging percentage, reaching base at a .380 clip. Stanley is hitting .307 on the season, collecting 43 hits in 140 at-bats. She is third in the CACC with 13 stolen bases while her 10 doubles ranks seventh in the conference. Her .514 slugging percentage is 12th best in the CACC. The smooth centerfielder also has five outfield assists on the season.
Brantley (Bear, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) filled a team need at the catcher position and excelled this season. She's played in all 48 games this season, starting 35 behind the plate. She's collected 35 hits in 122 at-bats, hitting .287 on the season. She's collected nine doubles, a triple, and three home runs, bringing in 15 runners while scoring 22 more. She's also appeared in 10 games in the circle, going 3-0 in 34.2 innings pitched with a 3.03 ERA.
Llamas (Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty) finished tied for the team lead with a .340 batting average in her first collegiate season. She collected 34 hits in 100 at-bats, hitting one double while bringing in nine RBI and scoring 15 more. She finished eighth in the CACC with 10 stolen bases, getting on base at a .377 clip. Llamas' seven sacrifice bunts also rank sixth in the CACC. She also had a team high 14-game hitting streak during the season, batting .418 during the span.
Caldwell's Marisa Monasseri was named the 2016 CACC Softball Player of the Year after completing the Triple Crown (.436/51 RBI/16 HR) while Post's Samantha Esque repeated as the 2016 CACC Softball Pitcher of the Year. Esque nearly completed the Pitching Triple Crown as well, leading the CACC with 19 wins and 149 strikeouts, but finished second with a 1.33 ERA in the regular season.
Felician's shortstop Zeaenna Brackett was named the 2016 Softball Rookie of the Year after hitting .403 with 62 hits, eight doubles, eight triples, and three home runs, finishing second in the CACC with 14 stolen bases.
Dominican head coach Joe Burbridge was named the 2016 BSN Sports/CACC Coach of the Year after leading his Chargers to a 22-4 CACC mark and a 30-14-1 overall record, earning the second seed for the CACC Tournament and being ranked in the NCAA Division II East Region polls. Goldey-Beacom College earned the 2016 CACC Team Sportsmanship Award to round out the Major Award Winners.
The Wildcats finished third in the CACC Standings with a program best 20 conference wins in 2016. They will square off against No. 6 Concordia in the first round of the CACC Tournament on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. The CACC Tournament is once again hosted by Georgian Court University in Lakewood, New Jersey.
