Lorne Bickley and Jill Braunsberg Named CACC Rookies of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The underclassmen continue to shine for the Wilmington University athletics department, as men's soccer's Lorne Bickley and volleyball's Jill Braunsberg were named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week in their respective sports on Monday.

It is the third time in his young career that Bickley (St. Helier, Jersey) has been named the CACC Rookie of the Week for men's soccer, including back-to-back weeks. It is the first time that Braunsberg (Birdsboro, Pa.) has been named the CACC Rookie of the Week for volleyball.

Bickley continued his hot streak in a match against Holy Family last week, scoring twice while adding an assist in the team's 5-0 win. He assisted on the game's second goal in the 56th minute before scoring back-to-back goals just 48 seconds a part to put the Wildcats ahead 4-0. He now leads the CACC with seven goals scored while also tied amongst the top with 17 points on the season. He has scored four goals and added one assist for nine points in the past two weeks.

Braunsberg flirted with a triple-double against Chestnut Hill, accumulating nine kills, 18 assists, and a season high 28 digs. It is the third time this season she has been one kill away from a triple-double. She managed another double-double to end the week, however, amassing 13 assists and 14 digs in three sets at Dominican. For the week she averaged 2.00 kills, 4.18 assists, and 4.64 digs per set. She also led the Wildcats with 10 service aces, collecting two at USciences before adding four aces against both Chestnut Hill and at Dominican. She is now third in the CACC in averaging 0.54 aces per set this season.

Senior outside hitter Allison Briley was named on the Weekly Honor Roll after becoming the program's all-time leader in kills. Cross country's Ken Fontal was also named to the sport's Weekly Honor Roll after finishing second at the 28th Annual Don Cathcart Invitational.
