NEWARK, Del. - - Local standout Bryce Carney has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his education and play baseball at Wilmington University during the early signing period, as announced by head coach Brian August.

Carney wrapped up his junior season last spring at Caravel Academy in Bear, Del., and can now focus on his senior year with the hurdle of deciding where to play in college out of the way.

Carney helped lead Caravel to the DIAA State Semifinals as a junior, pitching in both the first and second round of the state tournament. He is a tall left-handed pitcher and earned Second Team All-State last season.

The lefty also played for the Delaware North Carpenter Cup team this past summer and will join the Wildcats for the 2016-17 season.

The Wildcats are coming off their most successful season in program history, advancing to the NCAA Division II Baseball Championships in Cary, N.C. The 2016 season begins in late February with a trip to Myrtle Beach before their annual week long Florida trip.
